"Ordinary, said Aunt Lydia, is what you are used to. This may not seem ordinary to you now, but after a time it will. It will become ordinary"-the handmaid's tale
Gilead succeeds not by making people believe that its ways are right, but by making people forget what a different world could be like. Torture and tyranny become accepted because they are “what you are used to.
"But when these basic needs have been satisfied—will there still be something that everybody needs? Philosophers think so. They believe that man cannot live by bread alone. Of course everyone needs food. And everyone needs love and care. But there is something else—apart from that—which everyone needs, and that is to figure out who we are and why we are here."

congratulations shawn, you've just realised that there a chem class test tomorrow..-sigh- new hour, new discovery...-sigh- suddenly..i just feel so overwhelmed that i can't really be bothered with anything much now. and yet, i feel that pang of guiltiness....hope that i'll be able to rely on wadeva i learnt during lecture and tutorials..though i highly doubt so...i suddenly thought of two of the most beautiful sights i've seen in my life....
1) Staring into the starry sky at midnight in the middle of the sahara desert, feeling the cold wind brush lightly against you, and the fine sand at your feet, illuminated only by the light of the moon...
2) Standing at the top of a desert city, looking into the sand dunes that stretch ever so far away.... while listening to vanessa williams 'colors of the wind'....

i begin each day knowing that i really love myself for who i am, and what i've become. i wouldn't want to trade my mind, body or soul for anyone else's because i'm proud to be ME.Being proud of who you are, I feel is probably just as important as being able to appreciate the uniqueness of others.
i think that people do not love themselves enough. Suicides, self-mutilation, and a utter dis-regard for self will lead us nowhere. yet, how can we convince everyone to live each day to its fullest, to take life in every breath? true, we might have our little imperfections and idiosycricies, but isn't that what differentiates one from another? Uniqueness is a very precious gift. Cherish it, and use it well.
